Shelton Bynum
Shelton Bynum was hired in December of 2025, coming to Fort Collins after spending the four prior seasons on the staff at Connecticut, where he served as the associate director of strength and conditioning the final two seasons.
 
He brings nearly two decades of experience to the strength and conditioning program. Before joining the Huskies, he was the head sports performance coach for Stephens College, overseeing the development and implementation of programs for women’s basketball, women’s soccer and softball starting in 2020.
 
He started his path at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania as an assistant football coach in 2008, then moved to Johnson C Smith University as an assistant coach and the head strength and conditioning coach beginning in 2014. In 2018, he moved to Livingstone College where he was the head strength and conditioning coach for 13 NCAA programs.
 
He was a four-year letterwinner at North Carolina as a defensive lineman, eventually playhing for the first USA National Football Team which won the gold medal in Japan at the 2007 World Cup of American Football.
 
Bynum earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina in 2007 and received his master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio University in 2015. He is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
