Jason Phillips joined CSU staff in 2009 as an assistant strength and conditioning coach and has since been elevated to the role of Head Strength and Conditioning Coach where he works directly with the men’s basketball and volleyball teams.
 
During his time working with men's basketball, the team has seen postseason play three times, including consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in 2011 and 2012. Phillips has served as the strength and conditioning coach for the volleyball program since 2011 and has played a vital role in a program that has been a dominant force in collegiate volleyball over that span, including an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen in 2014.

In 2013, Phillips took part in the NBA pre-Draft combine in Chicago. As an affiliate of BAM (Basic Athletic Measurement), Phillips assisted in the measurement and athletic testing of NBA prospects. He also served as a strength and conditioning consultant to The Bahamas senior men's basketball national team. The 20-member senior team trained and practiced in Fort Collins in preparation for the Caribbean Basketball Confederation championships and FIBA Americas Championships.

Before coming to the Rams, Phillips spent four years (2005-08) as the Head Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Washington. During his time with the Huskies, Phillips worked with the football, men's and women's golf programs, as well as the Huskies softball program which amassed 109 wins during his tenure and finished ranked No. 3 in 2006-07.

Prior to his time at University of Washington, Phillips spent two years as Assistant Strength, Speed and Conditioning Coach at Oregon State. Throughout his tenure, Phillips assisted with the implementation of strength, speed and conditioning for the Beavers football team, while serving as the strength and conditioning coach for the wrestling, softball, swimming, and men's/women's golf programs.

Phillips served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the NFL's San Diego Chargers under strength coach Dave Redding and head football coach Marty Schottenheimer in 2003 and 2004.

Prior to his two seasons in San Diego, Phillips was the assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of California-Irvine. He also spent a season as a minor league strength and conditioning coach for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2000, coaching soon-to-be major leaguers.

A native of Deadwood, S.D., Phillips worked as a graduate assistant at the University of North Texas from 1997-1998. He was in charge of strength and conditioning for golf, swimming, women's basketball, tennis, and track and field. He also assisted with football during his time at UNT, where he obtained a master's degree in Exercise Physiology. Phillips attended the University of Colorado as an undergraduate and earned a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology.

He holds numerous certifications, including; Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (SCCC), National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS), FMS, Eleiko Olympic Weightlifting, and USA Weightlifting. Phillips and his wife, Natalie, have two children, Noa and Makena.
