Colorado State University has a lot to play for Saturday when the Rams entertain San Diego State Unviersity at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
"We have a lot to play for," Lubick said Monday. "We'd like to see if we can get two more wins and get to a bowl game. I don't think there will be any letdown. They (players) know they have a lot to play for."
The Rams are 5-4 overall, 4-2 in Mountain West Conference play. The league currently has at least three guaranteed bowl tie-ins, and Lubick is hopeful two more victories can secure a berth in the postseason for the Rams.
"This time of year, you are either getting better or you are getting worse," he said. "We'd like to be one of those teams that plays its best."
It's also a chance for Lubick, his staff and the rest of the squad to send 14 departing seniors out on a successful note.
"This is a good class. It seems like every senior is a contributor. It's an impressive group of guys. They've been fun to be around."
The seniors will be introduced on the field during pregame activities Saturday. When the game begins, Lubick said his Rams will be facing a talented SDSU team.
"They are jelling. They beat Utah handily, and beat BYU. That says all you have to say," said Lubick.
The Aztecs had an open date last week, and enter Saturday's game 3-6, 2-4.
"I like their quarterback," he said of SDSU's Kevin O'Connell. "He can run. He's a big, strong guy. He's gaining confidence each game. They also have two solid runningbacks."
He also praised wide receiver Jeff Webb.
"Webb is as talented as any receiver in the league."
"They will come in here well-prepared and with good football players. We're going to have to play very well to win. They've always come here and played well," Lubick said.
Colorado State Director of Athletics Mark Driscoll said there are many ticket promotions for this week's game. Fans can buy one ticket and receive a second one free with the purchase of a Mountain Dew soft drink can; the cans can be presented at the CSU ticket office in the McGraw Center or game day at the stadium for redemption.
Saturday is also "youth dollar day." Fans 17 years old or younger receive a $1 ticket to the game when accompanied by an adult with a full-priced ticket.
CSU also is offering group ticket discounts for groups of 25 or more. For more information, call the CSU ticket office, 1-800-491-RAMS.
Lubick said Albert Bimper, the team's starting center when the season opened, remains sidelined with a hamstring injury. It appears, Lubick said, Bimper may not make it back for the final two games of the season. Also, cornerback Robert Herbert, who left last week's game early with a lower right leg contusion, and his condition won't be known until later in the week.
