FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Before the CSU football team leaves for its bowl trip Wednesday, the coaches and players are leaving something special behind for their community.

Each year, the football team receives brand-new Colorado State coats for use during practice and games. Beginning this year, the team is donating its used gear to the homeless, through a Colorado charity called Homeless Gear (homelessgear.com).

The mission of Homeless Gear is to collect unwanted outdoor gear (coats, packs, sleeping bags, etc.) and redistribute those items to the homeless. Homeless Gear intends to find a home for all unwanted outdoor gear, for those without permanent shelter.

The organization was recently discussing its biggest need, and that was large and extra-large men’s coats. The CSU football team was a perfect organization to meet that need.

Head Coach Steve Fairchild and the Rams hope to build a foundation for the Rams Response program this year, hoping that it can grow into an annual, pre-holidays event that accepts warm clothing from fans, season-ticket holders, the CSU community and anyone who wishes to provide gear for the homeless.

The team plans to make its donation before departing for Albuquerque, N.M., Wednesday afternoon.
