TEAM NOTES
Vegas on deck: The Rams now head to loss Vegas in attempt to end a six-game slide. The last time CSU visited Las Vegas, on Oct. 20, 2007, CSU snapped a six-game losing streak.
Scoring first: The Rams allowed the game’s first points for only the third time this season. Opponents also scored first vs. Utah (field goal) and at BYU (touchdown). Until today, BYU was the only CSU opponent to have scored on its opening possession.
The spark: On the Rams’ third drive, Leonard Mason entered the game for the first time since bruising his ribs early at TCU (Oct. 17), and had six carries for 47 yards, including a 25-yard burst. The 13-play, 74-yard field-goal drive got the Rams back in the game, consuming 7:42 off the clock.
Ground war: CSU scored its first touchdown on a seven-play, 59-yard drive that took nearly 5 minutes off the second-quarter clock, and all seven plays were carries. The Rams had 130 rushing yards midway through the second quarter. Air Force entered the game allowing just 124.1 rushing yards per game. The Rams also went into halftime with better than a 3-minute advantage in time of possession, and finished with a slight advantage in that category, 30:31-29:29.
Spooky game: CSU went into halftime having completed three passes to two players, FB Zac Pauga (2) and TE Eric Peitz (1). There were 10 total pass attempts in the first half, five for each club.
Two decades: The last time CSU lost consecutive Fort Collins games to the Falcons was 1988-89. CSU is 4-2 over its last six Fort Collins meetings vs. Air Force, dating back to a win in 1999.
Punt returns: CSU has not returned a punt since Oct. 3 at Idaho.
