FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced recently that Colorado State is among several outstanding women's cross country teams to be named a 2008 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
This is the second consecutive year that the women's team has received this honor for its exceptional work in the classroom. As a team, the athletes achieved an average grade-point average of 3.419. In order for a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, it must have a minimum team cumulative GPA of 3.00 in addition to recording a team score at an NCAA regional meet.
In addition to the team honors, Ellie Rastall was individually named to the 2008 NCAA Division I USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Team. Rastall, a freshman, was the only CSU representative at the 2008 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. She finished fifth among the nine Mountain West Conference runners in attendance. She is one of 77 athletes honored, representing 52 Division I institutions, for both outstanding athletic and academic achievements.
A minimum 3.25 cumulative grade-point average is required to be eligible for the award. Athletically, a student-athlete must finish in the top 15 (or top 10 percent) of the field at his/her respective NCAA regional meet or reach All-America status at the NCAA Division I Cross Country championships.
