FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The men’s and women’s cross country teams will get their first taste of competition as the Rams head to Laramie, Wyo., Friday to compete in the Wyoming Invitational.
Historically this is a race in which the Rams traditionally do well, as both the men and women are coming off first-place finishes from last year.
"The Wyoming Invite will be a great indicator of where we are at this point in the season compared to our teams of the past,” said Head Coach Bryan Berryhill. “We have run this meet all four years I've been coaching here, so it's easy to go back and compare this year’s times with the prior three years. Both the men and women are training well and I'm excited to start the season Friday."
Coming into the 2009 season, the women will look to get back to where they were at the end of the 2007 season when they claimed the Mountain West Conference championship and Mountain Region championship. Based on track times from the 2009 season, the women could to be one of the most talented teams in school history, not to mention they will return six of the top seven runners from the 2008 team.
The men will also return six of their top seven runners from the 2008 team, and have added standout freshman Andrew Roberts from Lyons High School. The men have set a goal for themselves to finish in the top two of the MWC and in the top five in the Mountain Region.
The Rams will be going up against teams from the University of Wyoming, University of Northern Colorado and Gillette College. The event takes place at the Jacoby Golf Course, with the women's 2.5-mile race starting at 6 p.m., and the men's 4.25-mile race starting at 6:30 p.m.
