FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State sophomore wide receiver Rashard Higgins has been named to the Associated Press All-America first team, the organization announced Tuesday morning. He is just the seventh CSU player to earn AP All-America recognition, joining Kenny Hyde (third team, 1925), Gary Glick (second team, 1955), Mike Bell (second team, 1977-78), Keli McGregor (second team, 1984), Steve Bartalo (second team, 1986) and Greg Myers (first team, 1995).
"It’s a great honor for Colorado State football, and especially for Rashard,” said interim head coach Dave Baldwin. “I’m very proud of him, and proud of what everybody in this entire program has worked to accomplish this season.”
The native of Mesquite, Texas, leads the nation with 149.1 receiving yards per game and 17 receiving touchdowns. He is second among FBS pass-catchers with 1,640 receiving yards, only trailing Alabama’s Amari Cooper (1,656 receiving yards), who has played in two more games this season.
Higgins, a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, set the CSU record for consecutive games with at least 100 receiving yards with seven, which is the longest active streak in NCAA FBS. On the year, he has nine games with at least 140 receiving yards, which is also a CSU single-season school record.
Higgins shattered every CSU single-season receiving record in 2014. His total receiving yards and receiving touchdowns are single-season school records, but his 89 receptions in 11 games is also a school record.
The sophomore pass-catcher became the first wide receiver since Michael Crabtree (Texas Tech) in 2007 to record three consecutive games with more than 175 receiving yards. Higgins had 178 receiving yards vs. Tulsa (Oct. 4), 194 at Nevada (Oct. 11) and 187 vs. Utah State (Oct. 18).
Last week, Higgins earned first team All-America honors by USAToday and Walter Camp and second-team All-America by CBS Sports.
