Spring Football Notebook: Practice 13
4/16/2015 12:00:00 AM | Football
Snowy weather on Thursday forced the Rams inside to the indoor practice facility for the 13th practice of spring. The Rams will practice one more time, on Friday afternoon, before Saturday's Green and Gold Spring Game.
Head coach Mike Bobo said his team has finished a majority of the install but they'll continue to install small facets of the playbook. Bobo was pleased with the work Colorado State accomplished on Thursday afternoon.
"It was a good day," said Bobo. "We worked a little more situations, some passing situations, blitz, third down, red zone and it was good on both sides of the ball."
High energy, spirited practices are important to this coaching staff, and Thursday was just what they wanted. The practice finished with a one-minute drill pitting the one offense against the one defense, the two offense against the two defense, etc.
"We did a one-minute at the end, and the defense won all three drills," Bobo said. "We actually went with the ones one more time, and winner didn't have lifting in the morning. The offense got it down to the eight-yard line and had three shots to score and couldn't get it in. The defense bowed their necks and stopped them. Good job by the defense."
On Friday, as the focus turns to Saturday's spring game, the Rams will have a condensed practice similar to what they were doing at the start of spring ball.
"We'll do some 7-on-7 and some team stuff. It'll be more like the first couple of days that we had in shorts, but not as long."

#HollywoodHiggins: Consensus All-American Rashard Higgins has not been practicing due to a minor hamstring injury. Although he has been in full pads, he has spent the practices taking mental reps and working with associate athletic director for sports performance Terry DeZeeuw on the sideline. Bobo said there is a slim chance Higgins plays on Saturday, but said the coaching staff is leaning to hold him out.
"There is an outside chance," Bobo said. "He would probably be able to go if there was a game, but we'll probably hold him and not risk anything. He's been doing a good job of paying attention and taking mental reps. Maybe a couple snaps, we'll see how he feels."
