Rams soccer continues tradition of academic excellence
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Colorado State women's soccer team continues to receive recognition for its work in the classroom, as the Rams earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award.
Â
In order to eligible for the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, a team must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better for that respective academic year. Colorado State receives this award for the 2016-17 academic year after finishing with a 3.15 team GPA.
Â
This marks the second time that CSU has been a recipient of the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award. The Rams also earned the award for the 2015-16 academic year.
Â
The Rams add this to their already lengthy list of academic accolades for the 2016-17 academic year. 16 Rams were named Academic All-Mountain West for the year, while nine were recognized as Mountain West Scholar-Athletes. Both totals are single-season bests for the program.
Â
A tradition of academic excellence for the Rams extends all the way back to 2013, the program's inaugural season under now-fifth-year CSU head coach Bill Hempen. Over the previous four years, 47 Rams have earned Academic All-Mountain West honors, while 22 Rams have been named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes.
Â
Notably, current seniors Gianna Marconi and Janelle Stone are each three-time recipients of each of Academic All-Mountain West and Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors. Seniors Taylor Hodgson and Maddi Rodriguez have also been named Academic All-Mountain West three times each.
Â
The Colorado State women's soccer team returns to action at the friendly confines of the new CSU Soccer Field this weekend. The Rams host Boise State at 4 p.m. MT on Friday and Utah State at 1 p.m. MT on Sunday.
