Senior quarterback to showcase skills on Jan. 20 at Tropicana Field

TAMPA, Fla. — Colorado State senior quarterback Nick Stevens has accepted an invitation to play in the 93rd East-West Shrine Game, scheduled for Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. MT at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Stevens joins teammate Jake Bennett on the East-West Shrine Game roster, giving the Rams their first offensive duo at the event since two offensive linemen (Shelley Smith, Cole Pemberton) went in 2009.

The Vista Murrieta High School product was named first-team All-Mountain West. Stevens leads the MW in passing yards (3,479), passing yards per game (289.9) passing touchdowns (27) and total offense (301.5).

His 27 passing TDs are the second-most in a single season by a CSU quarterback, while his yardage total ranks third in program history. He has thrown for more than 300 yards on seven occasions this year and has multiple touchdown passes in 10 games. Stevens ranks 11th nationally in passing yards and 12th in touchdowns.

"I am really proud of the way Nick has grown, not only as a quarterback, but as a leader," said head coach Mike Bobo. "The way he has handled adversity and continued to improve makes him very deserving of this opportunity to showcase his abilities at the East-West Shrine Game."

Stevens, who is pursuing a graduate degree in tourism management, is CSU's 48th participant in the East-West Shrine Game. Carlyle Vickers was the program's first to play in the prestigious pre-draft showcase, in 1927.

CSU will be represented at the East-West Shrine Game for the fifth consecutive season. Linebacker Kevin Davis played in last year's East-West Shrine Game before signing with the Los Angeles Rams as a free agent.

The Rams now have three players officially slated to participate in pre-draft showcase events. Senior wide receiver Michael Gallup will play in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 27 in Mobile, Ala.

While the teams are divided by East and West, the players come together for the beneficiary of the event, Shriners Hospitals for Children®, an international pediatric specialty health care system that treats children in orthopedics, spinal cord injuries, cleft lift and palate, and burns, regardless of the families' ability to pay.

The East-West Shrine Game will be televised live on NFL Network.
