Trio of Rams earn all-conference recognition

Williams, Stonehouse land on first team, Watson gets second-team nod

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Three Colorado State football players received all-conference recognition as the Mountain West Conference announced its season award winners via Facebook Live today.
 
Junior wide receiver Preston Williams and sophomore punter Ryan Stonehouse earned first-team recognition, while senior linebacker Josh Watson took second-team honors.
 
Williams' first-team selection marks the fifth consecutive year that the Rams have had a first-team All-MW wideout (Rashard Higgins – 2014-15, Michael Gallup – 2016-17).

The Lovejoy, Ga., native leads the league in receiving yards (1,345), receiving yards per game (112.1), receptions (96) and receptions per game (8.00) and ranks second in receiving touchdowns (14). Williams also ranks in the top five in the FBS in all five categories.
 
How Williams' 2018 campaign stacks up in the CSU record book:
  • 1,345 receiving yards – third all-time
  • 96 receptions – tied for second all-time
  • 14 receiving touchdowns – tied for second all-time
Williams ended his 2018 season with a 12-reception, 248-yard performance at Air Force on Thanksgiving, with three of those receptions going for touchdowns. The 248 yards was the fourth-most by any CSU receiver all-time. In total, Williams had six 100-yard outings, with four of those being at least 150 yards.
 
Stonehouse is the Rams' second first-team all-MW punter in the last three seasons, joining Hayden Hunt (2016).

The product of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif., leads the MW and ranks second nationally in gross punting average, with a CSU-record 48.3 yards per punt.
 
Stonehouse placed 18 of his 65 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line and had a season-long boot of 70 yards against Arkansas (Sept. 8).
 
Watson had a team-leading 131 tackles this season, averaging 10.9 per game (second in the MW, 14th in the FBS). The Blue Springs, Mo., native led or tied for the team lead in tackles in 11 of the Rams' 12 games this year. He also added 8.5 tackles for loss, one sack, four pass breakups, four quarterback hurries and two fumble recoveries.
 
Watson had 10 or more tackles in eight games this year, including a career-high 17 tackles twice (Wyoming, at Air Force).
 
The communications studies major finished his career sixth in CSU history in total tackles (367). Watson was an honorable mention All-MW recipient in 2017.
