Head Coach Mike Bobo announces decision as Rams begin spring football practices today
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State head football coach Mike Bobo announced today that Joey Guarascio has been promoted to lead the Rams' strength and conditioning program. Guarascio has served as the interim head strength and conditioning coach for the past three weeks after spending his first year with the program as associate head strength and conditioning coach.
"Joey brings a lot of energy and passion, and embraces the challenge we have to help our student-athletes get bigger, stronger and tougher," Bobo said. "He has impressed me in the year that he has been with our program, and especially in these past few weeks in an interim role. In that short time he has already made a big difference in our student-athletes. They believe in him, he has a strong desire to be here at Colorado State, and I have full confidence in his ability to help us achieve our goals."
Guarascio came to Colorado State in 2018 after serving in the same role at Ole Miss. He helped lead the football team to a pair of New Year's Six bowls during his tenure, including the 2014 Peach Bowl and the 2016 Sugar Bowl. He also was in charge of the Rebels' pro day and NFL combine preparation programs.
Prior to his stint at Ole Miss, Guarascio was the director of strength & conditioning at Northwestern State. He oversaw all 17 varsity sports and specifically handled football, men's and women's basketball and volleyball.
Guarascio began his career as a graduate assistant at NSU and then was an intern at both Florida Atlantic and LSU.
He is a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach for USA Weightlifting and is a certified the National Strength Coaches Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the distinction of Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC).
Guarascio graduated from Sioux Falls with an exercise science degree. He earned his master's degree in Human Health Performance from Northwestern State University, with an emphasis in sports management.
Joey and his wife Heather have a son, James, and a daughter, Sophia.
Colorado State's football program began its offseason strength and conditioning program Jan. 22 at the start of the spring semester. Today the team returns to the field for the first of its 15 spring practice sessions, scheduled through March 14.
