Walk Offs, Good and Bad

Colorado State was on both sides of walk-offs today at the Silicon Valley Classic.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Colorado State softball team snapped it's four-game losing streak after earning a walk-off victory against California Baptist, 2-1 Friday morning. The Rams followed the win playing Cal Poly, but were on the wrong side of the walk-off, dropping the contest, 2-1.
 
Game One vs. Lancers | Box Score
California Baptist got on the board first after a RBI single in the top of the second scored the game's first run. Both teams struggled to put runners on base through the middle frames. Colorado State finally tied the game in the fifth inning after Haley Donaldson singled to short to score Payton Allen who led the frame off and reached on a Lancer error. CSU continued to pitch well as it had the perfect opportunity in the final inning. The Rams put a pair of runners on with no outs before Donaldson dropped the sac bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Corina Gamboa delivered the following at-bat, sending a sac fly to center field to score Jordan Acosta and earn the walk-off victory.
 
Game Two vs. Mustangs | Box Score
The Rams started the second game of the day, putting two runners on in four of the first five innings but could not convert. Colorado State eventually got on the board in the sixth after Haley Donaldson drew a six-pitch walk to score a run. The lead did not hold long as Cal Poly tied the game with a RBI double in the bottom half of the sixth inning. CSU had a baserunner in the top of the final frame, but left it stranded. The Rams were one strike away from going to extra frames, but a single with two outs scored the runner from second for the Mustangs.
 
NOTES
- The walk-off win in against California Baptist was the first of the season for CSU
- Ashley Michelena led the Rams in the first game with a pair of hits, also drawing a walk
- Taylor Gilmore (1-2) earned her first win of the season after hurling the complete game, allowing just three hits and striking out six batters
- The Rams held Cal Poly to just a pair of hits through five innings
- Both Tara Shadowen and Jordan Acosta finished with a pair of hits each
- Jessica Jarecki hurled the 6 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and dealt four strikeouts
- CSU left 12 runners on base in the loss
