Rams Battle with No. 4 LSU

Colorado State battled tough with the No. 4 team in the country.

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Colorado State softball played tough, but fell to the hand of No. 4 LSU on Saturday at the Judi Garman Classic. The Rams got on the board first, but could not hang on to the lead, dropping the contest 6-2.

Colorado State scored the first run of the game after Ashley Ruiz knocked a base hit for an RBI in the first inning. LSU responded with a three runs on three hits and a Rams' error to take a 3-1 lead. The Tigers added to their lead in the sixth with another pair of runs on two hits and two CSU errors. LSU scored its final run in the final inning before Colorado State finished with a run in the bottom of the frame off a Brooke Polenz homer – her first of her career.
 
NOTES
- The Rams put up six hits against the No. 4 team in the country
- Taylor Gilmore went the distance in the circle, allowed just three earned runs and struck out five batters
- Tyler Trott led CSU from the dish with a pair of hits
- Brooke Polenz hit her first homer of the her career and the fourth of the season for Colorado State
- CSU played No. 4 LSU tough, allowing the Tigers to just one or no baserunners in four innings
