Rams Kick Off the New Season with Colorado Cup Return
FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – Coming off its best season in program history, the Colorado State women's soccer team is eager to build upon it with a 2020 schedule which features the return of the Colorado Cup and challenging road trips.
Â
The first chance to see the 2020 Rams will be at the Green and Gold exhibition on August 15th at the CSU Soccer Field. For the regular-season opener, the Rams renew the Colorado Cup at Colorado on August 20th prior to all the Colorado NCAA Division I women soccer programs convening in Denver for the tournament's last day on August 23rd. In the modified two-game schedule, Colorado State will finish the in-state tournament against the host, Denver.
Â
Three more non-conference away games follow against SIUE (Aug. 28), Texas Tech (Sept. 6), and SMU (Sept. 20), before the Rams take the CSU Soccer Field for the first regular-season contests in late September. When San Diego State (Sept. 25) and New Mexico (Sept. 27) come to Fort Collins, it will also kick off Mountain West play. Next, the Rams will go on a two-game swing to California for Fresno State (Oct. 2) and San Jose State (Oct. 4), before enjoying a four-game homestand against Colorado College (Oct. 9), Air Force (Oct. 11), Nevada (Oct. 16) and UNLV (Oct. 18).
Â
The Rams must return the favor of the home cooking by going on a four-game road slate afterwards, starting with Utah State (Oct. 23), and Boise State (Oct. 25), and ending with bus trips to Wyoming (Oct. 30), and non-conference Northern Colorado (Nov. 6).
Â
Head coach Bill Hempen returns for his eighth season with a roster of 19 returners, five freshman and one graduate transfer. Highlighting the returning squad is MW first-team selections Gabi McDonald and Gracie Armstrong, in addition to all-conference second-teamer Addie Wright and all-newcomer team honoree Kristen Noonan.

On the schedule…
"Every corner of our lives has been altered by the COVID-19 pandemic and our program is no different.  In cost-saving measures, the Mountain West has limited the number of contests for soccer to 16 plus one "bonus game" and has eliminated the conference tournament. So, in keeping with what we instill in our players, we adjust, controlling only what we can control, and prepare to overcome all obstacles in front of us."
Â
On in-state competition and the Colorado Cup…
"Although we play all of the NCAA Division 1 schools in Colorado only two of those are home games. With the loss of total numbers of games, we chose to use one of three games we normally use in the cup as one to sacrifice. The Cup will be a two-game event the first weekend of competition with all six teams playing in Denver at DU on August 23rd. We play Northern Colorado the final weekend of the season – a spot normally reserved for the MW tournament."
Â
On the season…
"After a very impressive 2019 season in which we were one point back of champion Boise State and SDSU, we are extremely motivated to get going in 2020. We were able to get a good bit of training and one spring competition in before we were appropriately shut down, so this break has left us hungry to get back on the field. We will do this with the emphasis on player and fan safety as the utmost priority. We hope you can join us for an exciting season of #CSUFutbol."
EDITS DUE TO COVID-19 (7/29/20)
The Green & Gold game, Colorado, Denver and SIUEÂ have been taken off the schedule.
Added Northern Colorado at home on September 18th at 4 p.m.
