Senior Nets Three Goals to Earn Conference Weekly Honor
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Three goals including Sunday's Senior Day golden goal was a catalyst for Kristen Noonan to be named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Â
The Porter Rach, Calif. native helped Colorado State soccer achieve a program-record five wins in a row and improve CSU to 6-5-2 overall, but more importantly 5-3 in the Mountain West.
Â
On Friday, Noonan represented one of CSU's three scores in the 3-2 victory over Nevada in the annual Pink Out game. Sunday provided flare like the Blue Angels that you could see in the distance at the Northern Colorado Regional Airport. After a scoreless half, Noonan broke the deadlock with a header in the 71st minute off a Kaitlyn Abrams assist. Ten minutes later however, UNLV tied it and the game went on into extra time. Just when it seemed like another overtime period was in the future, the Rams struck. Gracie Armstrong fed Noonan who fired a shot in the bottom left corner of the net for the game-winning goal in the 98th minute. Noonan, a senior, not only won the game for her class, but won the first Senior Day game in Colorado State soccer history.
Â
The three goals accounted for six points on the weekend en route to her season total of 14, which ties Armstrong for the most on the team. Her six goals lead the Rams with Armstrong trailing with five. When looking at the record book, Noonan moved into second place in all-time goals (12) and third in all-time points (27), passing former teammate Taylor Steinke in both. Â
Â
The weekly honor is the second for Colorado State this season after freshman Shayna Ross earned the defensive and co-freshman nods last week. However, it is the first offensive honor since Caeley Lordemann on Oct. 28, 2019. For Noonan, it is her second such award as she obtained one in her first season with the Rams on Sept. 23, 2019, after a three-goal weekend at Valparaiso and Marquette.
