Despite missing a game, Howell is the team's leading tackler.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -Â Sophomore safety Jack Howell, on the heels of a Freshman All-American season in 2021, was named to Pro Football Focus' Midseason All-American Team, the organization announced.
Howell, who currently leads the Rams with 61 tackles despite missing the Nevada game, has a team-high three interceptions on the season as well as a forced fumble and 1.5 tackles for loss. He was the lone representative from the Mountain West on PFF's First Team lists.Â
According to the outlet, Howell has the fifth-best coverage grade (87.8) in the country among safeties, and the fourth-best pass-rush grade (89.8). He is the only FBS safety to grade 80.0 or better in both categories.
This season, Howell has posted double-digit tackle performances in three of his five games played including a career-best 17 against Middle Tennessee. Against Utah State, he posted 16 total tackles. Since 2000, a Ram defensive player has tallied 15 or more tackles just 26 times. Howell owns two of those performances.
Colorado State hosts Hawaii this weekend for the annual State Pride game. The team will also be supporting the Rams Tackle Cancer initiative and celebrating the work of UCHealth and the Flint Animal Cancer Center's "One Cure" initative.Â
