Colorado State to play first night game for Ram Field Softball Complex Grand Opening Saturday

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State softball team is set to host the UNLV Rebels in its second home weekend of the season while the Rams have a Grand Opening event planned to celebrate their new and improved home diamond Saturday night under the lights. The three-game series will be held March 31 and April 1-2.

What You Need to Know:
  • Friday's game against the Rebels, set for a 4 p.m. first pitch, will be the Rams' annual pink out game. Fans are encouraged to partake in the pink out as the team unveils new pink jerseys Friday afternoon.
  • Saturday's Grand Opening event celebrates a new era in Colorado State Softball with the program's first ever night game. The new and improved Ram Field featuring a new stadium concourse, improved fan seating, new team dugouts, netting throughout the complex and lights over the field was made possible thanks to a five million dollar donation from the Bohemian Foundation donated specifically towards Colorado State women's athletics. With festivities starting at 5 p.m., fans and families are welcome to come take part in the celebration featuring food, a special visit from Cam the Ram and inflatables. The Grand Opening Ceremony will commence at approximately 5:30 p.m.
  • The Rams look to continue their successful start to conference play as they bring a 3-2 record into their series against UNLV.

Scouting the Rebels:
  • Picked to finish third overall in the Mountain West pre-season poll, the Rebels bring a 1-5 conference record with them to Fort Collins after being swept by Boise State and falling to Nevada in two of three games last weekend.
  • At the plate, the Rebels boast three hitters averaging above .300 and have a team ERA of 5.43 in the circle. With the distribution of innings spread evenly across the UNLV pitching staff, the Rams have a high chance of seeing a plethora of pitchers this weekend.
  • Colorado State is 50-46 all time against UNLV with a 24-19 record when playing the Rebels at home.

Game Notes:
  • Last weekend, the Rams split the two game series with Boise State after Sunday's rubber match game was canceled due to weather in Boise.
  • Game one was a high scoring matchup from both teams with Colorado State taking the win 13-11. After a six run comeback from the Broncos, senior Danielle Serna delivered a three-run double with two outs in the seventh inning to put the Rams back on top and take the clutch win.
  • Junior Molly Gates continues to be a consistent leadoff hitter for the Rams, especially after going 4-6 from the plate against Boise State last weekend.
  • Sluggers Hailey Smith and Peyton Allen enter the weekend versus UNLV tied for first in the Mountain West with eight home runs each this season after both players hit a home run during last weekend's series in Boise.
  • In the circle, Colorado State returned senior pitcher Julia Cabral back from injury last weekend as she made her first start of the season. Last year, Cabral led the Rams in innings pitched with 94.2 innings and will look to gradually increase her roll in the rotation throughout the season.
