GAME NOTES

  • Opposing offenses are in for a Long night when they play the Rams as Colorado State linebacker Owen Long is leading the nation in tackles per game with 12.2. The numbers have garnered national recognition as Long was named an AP Midseason All-America Second Team selection on Oct. 15. Just a sophomore, Long was elected the youngest captain ever the team prior to the start of the season.
  • Despite the struggles overall for the Colorado State offense this season, the Rams have been clinical in a key area: red zone efficiency. CSU scored a touchdown on just 54.5% of red zone trips in 2024, which ranked 104th nationally. This year the Rams have been much more efficient, reaching the end zone on 72.7% of trips to the red zone which is top 20 in the country. The issue has been getting to the red zone, however, as the Rams are tied for 125th with just 22 red zone attempts.
  • Colorado State's pass defense has an ace in the hole in cornerback Lemondre Joe. The grad transfer from Missouri State has been putting opposing receivers on an island, tied for second nationally with 12 pass breakups. Deeper in the secondary, safety Jace Bellah has been a ball hawk all seaosn long as he is tied for eighth nationally with four interceptions - the leaders having just one more.
  • Colorado State's stable of running backs has been highly efficient this season, with four backs in rotation to keep the legs fresh. Freshman Jalen Dupree (5.0 ypc) and sophomores Lloyd Avant (5.4) and Justin Marshall (6.3) are all averaging more than five yards per carry, giving the Rams a plethora of options in the backfield. Dupree leads the room in volume (102 carries) and logged the first 100-yard game of his career on the road against San Diego State. Dupree leads Colorado State in explosive plays this season with eight, including seven rushes of 15+ yards.
  • Injuries have not been kind to Colorado State this season, leading to a big shakeup in the depth chart. The Rams have started 24 different defensive players and 22 offensive players. When breaking down the defense, four players have started every game, making the other seven positions average nearly three players each. CSU is down six week-one starters for the remainder of the season - three on each side.
  • Colorado State saw massive shakeup in the offensive line that allowed just 10 sacks and ranked No. 4 nationally in 2024. With the departures of staples Jacob Gardner, Drew Moss and Saveyon Henderson, in addition to the season-ending injury of Tanner Morley, CSU is down to just one returning starter in the front five. CSU has allowed 25.0 sacks already this season, which is among the bottom 25 in the country.
