LeDominique “Buddha” Williams was named to Jay Norvell’s inaugural coaching staff in December of 2022 as the defensive line coach.

Taking over a young room, Williams’ developed a stout defensive front using a heavy rotation system. The group helped the Rams improve in run defense as the season progressed, with three of his lineman finishing among the top 10 in tackles for the team, lead by second-team All-Mountain West selection Mohamed Kamara, who finished with 44 tackles, 16.0 for loss and 8.5 sacks. He was second in the league with 1.33 TFLs per game, fifth with .71 sacks. CJ Onyechi earned honorable mention All-MW with his 58 tackles, 9.0 TFLs and 3.5 sacks, while in the interior, Grady Kelly was named a Freshman All-American by College Football News with 43 tackles.

A coaching veteran, he spent the 2017-21 seasons at North Dakota State where he helped mold the defensive ends for the perennial FCS power. In his time with the Bison, he helped develop a trio of FCS All-Americans, Greg Menard, Derrek Tuszka and Brayden Thomas, with Tuszka being named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2019. NDSU posted three of the top four seasons in terms of tackle for loss in Williams’ tenure. In 2021, the Bison had a school record 49 sacks, with Thomas posting nine.

He spent one season at UT Martin in 2016, coaching a pair of all-conference linemen. His first season on the field came with his alma mater, Charleston, as a linebackers coach in 2010, then spent four seasons at a graduate assistant, first at Ohio and then at Illinois.

Williams played three years for Charleston, helping the team produce winning results as the program returned to the field in 2005. He posted 130 tackles with 11 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.

Williams and his wife, Veronica, have two children: Alexis and Dominic.
