OGDEN, Utah - The Colorado State women's cross country team continues to make history, this afternoon becoming the first Rams squad to win an NCAA Regional setting up a trip to the NCAA Championships. April Thomas placed fifth in the 6K race as CSU defeated perennial rivals Colorado and BYU at the Riverside Golf Course in Ogden Utah.
"The girls ran well as a team," said Head Coach Bryan Berryhill. "I think one of the wonderful things about this team is the way they react to wins. I don't think it has hit that they defeated BYU for the fourth time this season and Colorado. They just look at it like we ran well and won a race."
Thomas' finish in 21:00.00 was a team best followed by the duo of Kirsten Anthony in the 15th spot with a time of 21:21.5 and Heather Loseke in 16th with a time of 21:25.5. The Rams scoring runners were separated by just 30.5 seconds. Allison Gohl (19), Kristen Hemphill (20) and Melissa Thomas (21) finished out the scoring for CSU. Chantell Dron finished in 78th.
In the women's race, Northern Arizona finished second with BYU third and Colorado fourth. Wyoming finished in ninth, Utah finished 11th and Air Force finished 16th.
Colorado won the men's race while the Rams finished 13th. Andres Urbina was the top finisher for the Rams in 42nd with a time of 32:01.4.
The women's team earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships to be held in Terra Haute, Ind. on Nov. 19th.
