Cross Country Teams Ready for Friday’s Horn

9/5/2019 4:06:00 PM | Cross Country

XC Starts Friday Night in Cheyenne, Wyo.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Both the Colorado State men's and women's cross country teams will travel up to Cheyenne, Wyo. for Friday's Wyoming Invite to kick off the 2019 season.

"It is a small meet, but ultra-competitive," Colorado State head coach Art Siemers said. "Colorado is running their whole squad, and Wyoming has a very strong men's team that finished 13th last year and are actually ahead of us in the poll currently. It is always fun to see our rivals there. Western [Colorado] also has a really strong Division II program, so we will be able to start off with great competition just down the road that should get us ready."

The men's squad, ranked No. 17 in USTFCCCA, will run 16 runners, including six freshmen. Coming off successive program-best ninth-place NCAA finishes, the men look to continue their mark nationally.

Nine newcomers highlight the 18 runners that will compete on the women's side on Friday, featuring six freshmen and three transfers. The women's squad, pinned ninth in the Mountain Region by USTFCCCA, go into the season with a sense of something to prove.

Set to join the Rams in the Wyoming Invite are Colorado, Western Colorado, Northern Colorado and host Wyoming.
