Colorado State Soccer Concludes Home Schedule with Senior Day and Border War Game

FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – The 2021 Colorado State soccer home schedule will come to a close Saturday, but in a big way as Senior Day festivities and Border War rivalry emotions add significance to CSU Soccer Field.

Kickoff with the Wyoming Cowgirls is slated for 2 p.m. after eight CSU seniors are recognized for their Ram careers.

Colorado State (2-1-1) aims for their first-ever victory over Wyoming (1-5).

Coaches' Corner
Head Coach Bill Hempen
On Senior Day…
"We are wrapping up our home portion of our very unique season. If you look at what this senior class has gone through and on down, no one could have ever predicted the season would of looked the way it did. The team has persevered through every adversity faced with grace. They entered August with the expectation of playing and then when the season was pushed back, they arrived after holiday break ready to go. We've made it as enjoyable as possible to give our seniors a proper end to their great careers and Saturday will be a day to really show our appreciation."

On Border War…
"The game against Wyoming is usually our last game of the regular season, but with the revised schedule it's a little different this year. We have a great deal of respect for the Cowgirls as they are resilient in games against us and we are hoping to break through to get our first victory in the rivalry."

Last Time Out
- In the first game of the weekend, the Rams' Taylor Steinke scored in the 79th minute en route to defeating Air Force, 1-0.

- Sunday's contest was against the No. 2 and No. 3 teams of the Mountain Division of the Mountain West. After 110 minutes, the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Gracie Armstrong bent her corner kick into the net for the equalizing goal in the 61st minute.

Series History
- CSU trails the all-time series against Wyoming, 0-6-1 and are 0-3-1 in Fort Collins. In the 2019 season, the Rams did not lose for the first time with a scoreless tie. The two teams were supposed to play in Laramie earlier this season, but was among one of CSU's three canceled games. This will be the first time in the series that back-to-back games have been played at the same location.

Colorado State Notes
- Gracie Armstrong's six points this season has her up to No. 3 on CSU's all-time career points list. She now has five career goals, which is tied sixth all-time.

- Taylor Steinke now stands second in career goals (10) and career points (23), trailing Caeley Lordemann in both. With her game-winning score against Air Force, she now has four which also is No. 2 behind Lordemann.

- Freshman goal keeper Amelia Hammerle had a season-best eight saves in the 1-1 double overtime tie against the Tigers. She notched her first career shutout versus Air Force.

Wyoming Notes
- The Cowgirls lone win came in the season opener, defeating Utah State, 1-0 at home. Since, UW has scored two goals across five games. Last weekend, UW had a pair of 0-1 losses to CC and Air Force.

- UW returns 17 letterwinners and nine starters from last season. In 2019, the Cowgirls went 7-7-5 overall and 4-5-2 in the MW to finish ninth.
