The Roadrunners Open Starts Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Denver
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – For the first time this season, the Colorado State cross country programs will head south to compete at the Roadrunners Open on Friday in Denver at Washington Park.
Â
The men will begin their 8,000-meter race at 4:30 p.m. with the women's team following at 5 p.m. in their 6K race. On Tuesday, the women moved up a spot in the USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll and are now ranked No. 26 nationally.
Â
"It should be a great local race involving the best Division II competition in the country," assistant coach Andrew Epperson said. "The race level will be high and it's going to be a great opportunity for our student-athletes to compete after coming off of the Wyoming invite."
Â
Racing alongside the Rams will be host, Metro State, as well as Colorado Christian, Wyoming, Colorado School of Mines, Fort Hays, Regis, and UC-Colorado Springs.
Â
Last time out, CSU swept the Wyoming Invite, while the Wyoming men and women finished second and fifth, respectively. Also at the meet was the Mines' women, ranked second in NCAA DII, who took fourth. The new competition that will challenge the Rams include UCCS on both sides with their No. 9-ranked men and No. 10-ranked women. It will also be the first time the men will be pushed by Mines, who are defending their 2019 NCAA D2 championship title, since the rain postponement pulled them out of the Wyoming Invite. Both of Colorado Christian's teams reside in DII's national rankings as well.
Â
"This meet is giving our student athletes another opportunity and a chance to really dig into cross country at the collegiate level," Epperson continued. "It will be a perfect race for them to get some experience in and to help us coaches continue to make decisions for picking teams moving forward."
