Colorado State will face a combined 40+ teams that placed in the 2021 NCAA Championship

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State cross country teams have their work cutout this week, as they head to Madison, Wis., for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invite on Friday starting at 10:00 a.m., MT. The day will host 45 teams that placed at the 2021 NCAA Championship and 23 ranked women's squads and 19 ranked men's teams in the last USTFCCCA Poll.

Of the ranked teams, the men will race against eight teams in the top 10, while the women will face eight in the top third.

"All metaphors aside, the Nuttycombe is the defining moment of our season," said head coach Andrew Epperson. "We have two races under their belt and now get a chance to step into the national spotlight. Our training since the Roy Griak has been dialed-in and the team has done a great job at recovering and avoiding the seasonal sickness. Racing against the nation's best teams, in a field around 230 athletes, will give the team an opportunity to make adjustments before the Mountain West Championships later this month."

With the number of participates, the Nuttycombe features "B" races in addition to the championship races. The Rams will have student-athletes in both.

On the men's side, they will continue to build off their training and learn from the Roy Griak, where they finished fourth and had a trio in the top 25 finishers.

"The men continue to stack consistent training and show up to practice with an attitude to fix the mistakes made in Minnesota," added Epperson. "They know where they can improve and where they want to be at the end of the season. This meet sets them up well to accomplish those goals."

The women remain in the USTFCCCA rankings at No. 22. After a fourth-place finish at the Roy Griak, which included three finishes inside the top 15, they are ready for the national stage.

"The women have been resilient in training," said Epperson. "Our top three ran well in Minnesota and the rest of the women have made great strides. It will be a key moment for the women's depth to be on display."

The day begins at 10:00 a.m., MT with the "B" Races with the women's 6K. Races will follow 40 minutes after the start of each, with alternating women's and men's races. Fans can watch the races HERE and follow the scoring HERE.
