Colorado State will look to receive an at-large bid during the NCAA Championship Selection Show on Saturday
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Colorado State earned five All-Region nods at the NCAA Mountain Regional on Friday afternoon hosted by New Mexico. The women finished fourth out of the 19 schools, while the men posted a sixth-place finish. Annabel Stafford, Sarah Carter and Lily Tomasula-Martin earned All-Region awards, finishing in the Top-25 of the women's race and Thomas Chaston and Mason Brown earned honors for the men.
Â
The Rams were led by Annabel Stafford on the women's side, crossing in sixth place. Sarah Carter followed finishing in 20th and Lily Tomasula-Martin in 23rd.
Â
"The women came in with confidence and finished ahead of two Top-10 programs," said head coach Andrew Epperson. "Really great overall and an incredible performance by Annabel finishing in the Top-10. The region is very deep with seven ranked teams, with five of those in the Top-10 – so for her to be a single-digit finisher is huge. Having Sarah and Lily earning All-Region honors was a great driving force for how our women did."
Â
On the men's side, Thomas Chaston led CSU with a 11th place finish, followed by Mason Brown at 16th – both picking up All-Region honors.
Â
"Thomas did a great job leading us from the start," added Epperson. "And Mason did a great job moving up and finding him late in the race and encouraged him to stay tough. I do think the men can run a little better of 10K, but we did all we could do today. It was a great to see them never give up; they fought hard, they dug deep."
Â
Michael Mooney and Lars Mitchel crossed three and fourth, respectfully, for the Rams.
Â
"Both Michael and Lars were driving force for us," said Epperson. "They did a great job and what an incredible story for both, coming off of injury from last year. You can see it makes a different when you have athletes that are not injured helping the team out, because we are a completely different team this year.
Â
Colorado State will wait for their NCAA Championship fate until Saturday, when the NCAA Selection Show airs at 3 p.m., MT. The Rams will look to be one of the 13 at-large teams on each side. Should both squads make the Championship, it would be the first time in 18 years that CSU would send both teams.
Â
"Overall, really proud of how our teams ran. I'll probably lose a little bit of sleep tonight waiting for the Selection Show tomorrow, but overall great day and great performances by both teams. Something to really be proud of."
