Colorado State continues conference play with two weekday games at Moby Arena

FORT COLLINS – The Colorado State volleyball team enters its third week of conference play, set to host Wyoming Tuesday and Boise State Thursday at Moby Arena after starting 4-0 in the Mountain West.

What You Need to Know
  • The Rams have maintained an undefeated conference record so far this season and sit in first place in the Mountain West, starting out 4-0 in conference play with wins this past week against San Jose State, 3-0, and Fresno State, 3-1.
  • Tuesday's game against Wyoming will serve as this week's Mountain West Tuesday Night Block Party matchup and first of two Border War games against the Cowgirls this season.
  • Thursday's game against Boise State will be the Rams' annual Pink Out game where fans are encouraged to wear pink to cheer on the Rams, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 
 
Scouting the Cowgirls and Broncos
  • Wyoming enters Moby Arena coming off week two of conference with a loss against Fresno State after a forfeit loss against San Jose State. The Cowgirls started their conference off with a loss against Nevada and then earned their first conference win against Utah State September 28. They had notable wins this preseason against Colorado and Washington State. 
  • The Cowgirls have looked to sophomore outside hitter Paige Lauterwasser to lead their offense to success. Lauterwasser has 192 kills in conference play good for fifth in the Mountain West. She has been set up for success by senior setter Kasia Partyka who is currently ranked fourth in the Mountain West with 127 assista and an average of 8.47 per set. The Cowgirls have also been relying on their front row to hold down matches, ranking third in the Mountain West in blocks with 41 during conference matches.
  • Boise State is traveling to Fort Collins this week after a bounce-back week, with a win in four sets against Air Force and a sweep against New Mexico. This brings their record to 2-2 after two losses in the first week of conference play for the Broncos. 
  • Boise State's Kiki Remensperger was named the Mountain West freshman of the week. The setter and combined for nine kills, a team-high of 41 assists, 17 digs, nine blocks, and a hitting percentage of .292. Overall, the Broncos wins have been a team effort, as sixth year middle blocker Annie Kaminski leads the Mountain West in blocks with 20 during conference play and junior libero Bre Mitchell leads the Mountain West in digs wih 61 and an average of 5.08 digs per set.
 
Match Notes
  • Redshirt senior Malaya Jones was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, the third consecutive Ram to take the title. Jones receives this award after recording 22 kills, 17 digs, 36 points and maintaining the third highest kill percentage in the Mountain West with 63 kills and a percentage of 3.94. 
  • Fifth-year senior Emery Herman recorded 77 assists over two games last week as she continues to lead the Mountain West in assists per set at 10.81 and 173 total assists in conference. In Thursday's game against San Jose State, Herman recorded an .833 assist percentage, her highest so far in conference play. 
  • Graduate senior middle blocker Naeemah Weathers continues to lead the Mountain West in hitting percentage during conference play, with an overall percentage of .550 and 55 total kills. 
  • Saturday's game served as a continue to Colorado State's revenge tour, this time against Fresno State, as the last time the Rams played the Bulldogs was the Mountain West Tournament championship last season. The Rams victory this past weekend started off strong as freshman Maria Brun started off the first set with a seven-point service run, accumulating four aces throughout the duration of the match. This puts her at 12 aces overall during conference as she leads the Mountain West.
