Offense Propels Softball to Doubleheader Sweep

Colorado State outscored its opponents Sunday 24-1
FORT COLLINS – Runs, runs and more runs were scored by Colorado State softball on Sunday as they swept a split doubleheader against Maine and Idaho State, 17-1 and 7-0, respectively.
The 24 runs on Saturday brought the Rams total to 40 on the weekend.
Plating four runs in the first two innings, Colorado State's offense caught fire in the third and fourth innings against Maine. CSU scored seven in the third and six in the fourth.
Peyton Allen put an exclamation point on the seven-run rally in the third with a grand slam. Her second of the season. She ended the twin bill going 3-for-7 at the plate with seven RBI and four runs scored.
In game two against Idaho State, CSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead before an out was recorded. Maya Matsubara tripled to bring home the first run while Allen singled home Matsubara and a Molly Gates fielder's choice led Allen to touch home.
A pair of two-out hits from Brooke Bohlender and Sydney Hornbuckle grew the CSU lead to 5-0 over the Bengals.
Gates brought home two more runs in the sixth reaching the final score of 7-0. She finished the day 3-for-7 with five RBI and a run scored.
As dominant as the Rams were in the batter's box, they controlled the game from the circle too. Allowing just the one run to Maine and 10 hits over 12 innings.
Colorado State closes the Rams Invitational Monday against Drake at 11:30 a.m.
