GAME NOTES
- Colorado State took a big jump in year three of the Jay Norvell era, making a bowl game for the first time as a program since 2017. The Rams collected eight wins on the season including six at home - both the most since 2014. Norvell has upped his win total in each season at Colorado State and looks to build off of a 6-1 record in Mountain West games last season.
- Tyson Summers is back in Fort Collins as the Rams' 2015 defensive coordinator is returning to the same position under head coach Jay Norvell. Summers spent the past three seasons as the defensive coordinator at Western Kentucky. Summers' agressive schemes allowed the Hilltoppers to lead the nation with nine defensive touchdowns across the 2022 and 2023 seasons, which should provide a spark to a Ram defense that had no scores on defense in 2024
- The turnaround of the CSU run game in 2024 cannot be understated. In 2023, the Rams mustered just 92.2 yards on the ground per game, which was the ninth worst mark nationally. However, in 2024 the Rams racked up 168.15 rushing yards per game, which put them 53rd in the country at the end of the season. It wass one of the ten-largest increases by any FBS team and  the largest by any MW team. Justin Marshall (746 yds) is the lead returning rusher and will be joined by Jalen Dupree (153 yds) and Lloyd Avant (259 yds at Tulsa) in the backfield.
- CSU's defense will look quite different from last year's squad as program mainstays Jack Howell, Henry Blackburn, Cam Bariteau and James Mitchell all graduated from the program. The Rams lost an additional seven starters to graduation or the transfer portal, tasking new defensive coordinator Tyson Summers with reloading his group. Summers hit the portal to bring in 17 defensive transfers, including JaQues Evans (WKU/Baylor), Jacob Ellis (Iowa State) and Jahari Rogers (SMU) to slot in alongside promising returners Owen Long, Dylan Phelps and Mukendi Wa-Kalonji.
- CSU will miss the presence of receiver Tory Horton after he was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Horton was one of the top receivers in the Mountain West during his career, logging back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons in 2022 and 2023 before injuries affected his senior season. With Horton now in the league, Colorado State will look to returners Armani Winfield, Jordan Ross and Tommy Maher, as well as Northern Arizona transfer Tay Lanier to develop into the go-to guy.
