Q&A from Feb. 15, 2019:

What inspired you to choose CSU, being from California?
"I'm studying civil engineering, so the engineering program here and also the opportunity to play DI football for Coach Bobo and his staff. Also when I was on my visit, the family feeling here."

On what he'd like to do with his civil engineering degree...
"Eventually I would like to have my own design firm, but I'm focusing on structural engineering so the design and structure of buildings, bridges and things like that."

On his mentality on the football field...
"Do each play to the best of my ability and you have to believe that you're the best on the field and you're going to perform the best. You have to have the mentality that you're not going to be stopped and nobody's going to be able to get in the way of your goal."

Do you like mountains or beaches better?
"Mountains, definitely mountains. I love to fish, hike and all that stuff with the mountains. I do like the beach, but definitely more of a mountain person."

On his community involvement...
"Last spring I participated in the Green and Global trip and we went to Jamaica. It's an opportunity for student-athletes to get an abroad experience without having to miss seasons or training time. The last couple years I've done the Night to Shine event, which is a prom for people with special needs, and that was last Friday. I also have done Reading with the Rams, when we go read to school children and hang out with them for a little while. We've had a lot of events where we've had elementary kids come in here and we play different sports and try to hang out and talk with them."

On being a walk-on in the beginning and how he rose up from that?
"I just took it as an opportunity to kind of prove myself and just prove to the coaches and my teammates what I'm capable of, and to myself. There's only a select few walk-ons that are on scholarship, but it's an opportunity to show what I can do."

What restaurant would you suggest for anyone coming to Fort Collins?
"I'd say Stuft. I went there on my visit when I first got here and it's one of my favorites."

On his experience as a captain and how it has improved his leadership skills...
"It made me focus more on how I'm communicating to my teammates as well as my coaches. It also made me focus more on how to make my team get better and help bring ourselves together to work towards a common goal: Winning. I'd say it's also helped me be more accountable knowing that guys are counting on me."

What class have you enjoyed most at CSU or your favorite professor?
"Anything that has to do with structural engineering and statics. I took a couple of structural analysis classes, so any stuff that has to do with mass."

Most challenging class at CSU?
"Differential equations. I had no idea what was going on. It was hard to pass that class, it was a tough one."

On how he would describe the out-of-state transition from California...
"It's definitely different being away from home and family. The first couple years it was hard, but it makes CSU and Fort Collins become more of a home. It's also only a two-hour flight home, so it helps being pretty close. I'd say the people, community, this team and the students help make it more of a family-like atmosphere and makes that transition a lot easier."

Q&A from April 15, 2019

Q: You scored your first TD of your career against Air Force last season… what was that feeling like?
A: It was crazy, it was exciting. My family was in the crowd so that was a little more exciting for them to be there and to see my first touchdown so that was a lot of fun.

Q: CSU's offense has been very productive the past few seasons… what does it feel like when everything is just clicking and the team is moving right on down the field?
A: It is just a product of our hard work that we have all put in, in the offseason, and this season, and it is just an accumulation of all the work we put in.

Q: You began your CSU career as a walk-on… How did it feel when you were told that you were being given a scholarship?
A: I was a little in shock just the way they presented it to me. They kind of presented it as they called me in their office and told me that 'I was in trouble for going downtown' and I was like 'well what do you mean I wasn't downtown, like I promise' and then they just kind of flipped the switch and just told me. It was kind of surreal and it took a long time to sink in.

Q: What led you to come to CSU?
A: I had come here to be a civil engineer and I knew the engineering program was good so I just saw the opportunity to play Division I football for this program.

Q: Outside of football, what are you most excited about this semester and this year?
A: As far as school, I am just getting more excited to graduate, and I just get closer to getting into the real world. I'm excited to work as an engineer and do that. Also thinking of football, potentially going to the next level is definitely a goal of mine so it is just exciting to see this chapter slowly coming to an end, well rather quickly, but also that next chapter is what I look forward to.

Q: If you could travel back in time or the in future what would you want to see?
A: I would travel into the future, like 100 years into the future just to see how much technology has changed and just to see the differences in our lives and how much they have changed. I know it seems like just after a couple years so much has changed so drastically and so quickly so it would be cool to see what could happen in 100 years.

Q: If money was no object, how would you spend your summer?
A: I would definitely take some trips with my family and go to Europe and some stuff. I have always wanted to go to Italy so I think that would be cool to take them on some awesome trips.

Q: Favorite trip or vacation you've taken?
A: My favorite trip would be when I went to New York with my family. We've been a couple times but we went to the city and to upstate so that was a lot of fun but it was so nice to see the city side of it with my family and to see the countryside. It was a lot of fun just to be with them and to see both sides of New York.
