MADISON, Wis. – Both of the Colorado State cross country teams will be running Friday in the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, hosted on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.
In all, the field consists of 39 ranked teams with 19 on the men's side and 20 on the women's side. It is not just depth participating though as six of the top-10 in both are included. Additionally, six men's teams are receiving votes, including Colorado State. Another four teams that are receiving votes fill out the women's side.
For the most part, the Rams are going into the meet with fresh legs after a week off of competition. Two of Colorado State's seven runners in Friday's men's championship race participated last week at the UCCS Open. Those two impressed with Michael Mooney finishing third and Thomas Chaston winning, which garnered USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week and Mountain West Peak Athlete of the Week.
The women are even more rested as only one runner among the nine that will compete this weekend raced in Colorado Springs. That one runner, Lauren Offerman, also won the UCCS Open, earning a trip to run not unattached for the first time this season.

"This is the premier meet in the country leading to the NCAA Championships. Wisconsin is an invitational-only meet, so they only invite the top teams in the country. It is going to be competitive. Every team in the field is a strong team if you look at the overall RPI. There is no room for error at this meet. Wisconsin has a beautiful cross-country only course which is fairly unique in our sport, to have an on-campus course. It is set up really well for this meet. Our team is excited to have the opportunity to make amends for the race we had in Notre Dame. Our women are coming off a fairly strong performance, but we do have to step our game up. Ivy Gonzales who was our second runner got injured so she'll be out for the season, and so we'll see what happens. We have a strong contingent of ladies that are ready to step up and fill her role. On the men's side, we had a poor performance at Notre Dame. Therefore, we are looking to show that we deserve to be in the national rankings and can be a contender this year."
Rams Competing
Men's Championship Race: Forrest Barton, Satchel Caldwell, Jacob Brueckman, Maximilliano Martinez, Michael Mooney, Thomas Chaston, Brock Dykema
Men's B Race: Mason Brown, Matt Begeman, Tom Oates

The Course
All races will be held on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, which opened in 2009 and is located adjacent to University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
The course features an exterior loop of approximately 2,500 meters and an interior loop of 1,000 meters. Both loops cover the area's rolling hills and valleys, while the outside loop also runs through a section of dense woods, which are aflame with color in the fall.
Weather
The forecast in Madison calls for a high of 50 degrees under partly cloudy conditions when competition starts with the ceiling jumping up three degrees by time of the last race.
Parking
There is no spectator parking at the cross country course or University Ridge. Spectator parking will be located at Blackhawk Church in Middleton, Wisconsin.
Blackhawk Church: The Blackhawk Church is located 5 miles north of the University Ridge off of West Mineral Point Road. If traveling on the Beltline, exit to West Mineral Point Road and continue to Veritas Drive or Brader Way (both located on the right). Parking is available behind the church on the upper level. The shuttle will pick-up and drop-off at the upper level of the parking structure.
